Local Permissible Open Burning Requirements for Residences in Cobb County
Provided, however that suck burning, be conducted between 10:00 a.m. and one hour before sunset, and does not cause air polition in quantities or characteristics of a duration which is injurious or which unreasonable interferes with the enjoyment of life or use of property in such area of the county as is affcted thereby.
1. Reduction of leaves and small limbs that have fallen from the trees on your property (not over 2 inches in diameter.)
2. Fire location shall be 50 feet from any structure or property lines.
3. An adult (21 years or older) must be present the entire time the fire is burning.
4. A functional water hose must be present to control and extinguish the fire.
5. The fire must be completely out one hour before sunset. This means no smoldering or hot coals remaining.
6. No burning on windy days (10 mph or higher) or on days when the atmospheric condidtions (cloudy, overcast or raining) would cause the moke to remain low to the ground.
7. Fires may not be started with petroleum based products.
8. Refuse or other combustibles may not be burned at any time, only natural products from your property.
9. Leaves and limbs may not be hauled to your property from other locations and burned.
Exception to time restraints (10:00 a.m. to one hour before sunset)
1. Cooking food for immediate human consumption
2. Bonfires (must be completely out by 10:30 p.m.)
3. The fire official may prohibit any or all bonfires and outdoor burning when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires hazardous.
